Many of us are ignorant of what goes on inside the body in IBS, and why patients feel pain and discomfort regularly. Once, a friend accused me of not caring for her illness. She was suffering from abdominal upset and had seen several doctors. However, there was no improvement with each visit. One day, I casually called and asked her about her condition. Instead of receiving a friendly reply, I received a nasty one: "I want a support group to share my problem with, but you never support me!" How on earth was I to find a support group at the spur of the moment? Our friendship ended then |

So, when I came across the idea of forming a support group for people with IBS, I immediately supported it. We plan to hold a series of talks by experts on a wide variety of topics relating to digestive problems, and I welcome any further suggestions from the public.
We will also conduct small-group workshops for participants to share their experiences so that we can support one another.
Therefore, it is my great pleasure to invite you to join us in sharing, caring for and helping those with IBS, for the benefit of all.
Thank you.
Empowering IBS sufferers with knowledge, support and recognition.
• To educate patients, family members and doctors
• To serve as a voice for patients
• To provide a forum for exchanging information and sharing experiences
• A pro-tem committee, comprising a balance of medical professionals and lay members, has been formed to start up the group.
• For the first year, funding and logistic support will come from various pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, but the group will eventually become self-sufficient through subscriptions and donations.
• Membership is open to all; patients, relatives of patients, interested doctors and paramedical professionals are welcome.
We plan to ensure a high degree of interaction between members – to share knowledge and experience – through a series of planned activities.
-
• Public forums will be organised from time to time to reach out to, educate and recruit new members.
• Regular small-group workshops will be conducted for members and invited speakers to share their experiences and learn from each other.
• An interactive website has been set up with the unique feature of catering to our patients in Singapore. Our patients will be involved in the development and future updates of this site. They share their stories and help us to check that the contents make sense to our target audience.
